Allegation of Attack on Gonosha Rights Council Leader in Gosairhat

An attack has been alleged on the Gosairhat Upazila Gonosha Rights Council leader, Nazrul Islam, along with two others.

On Monday (March 3, 2025) afternoon, Gosairhat Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Maksud Alam, confirmed this information. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night in Kuchhaipatti Union of the Gosairhat Upazila. The injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment at the Gosairhat Upazila Health Complex.

According to the victims and the complaint, two cows belonging to Abu Taleb Mirdha's brother were recently stolen in the Gosairhat Upazila's Kuchhaipatti Union. On Sunday night, Nazrul Islam, the leader of the Gosairhat Upazila Gonosha Rights Council, was speaking with Abu Taleb Mirdha at his house about the issue. At that time, a group of 18 to 20 people, led by Jasim Mutait, attacked Abu Taleb Mirdha's house armed with local weapons, looting and causing damage. In the process, both Abu Taleb Mirdha and Nazrul Islam were attacked. When their neighbor, Nuru Gazi, came to their rescue, he was also injured. Local residents then took them to Gosairhat Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Following the incident, Abu Taleb Mirdha filed a complaint with the Gosairhat Police Station.

In relation to the attack, Nazrul Islam, the Gonosha Rights Council leader, stated that Abu Taleb Mirdha's brother's cows had been stolen recently. When Abu Taleb Mirdha spoke about it, Jasim Mutait and his group attacked their house. Nazrul Islam was also attack ed when he tried to intervene, and Nuru Gazi was injured while trying to help them.

The complainant, Abu Taleb Mirdha, added, "After discussing the theft of my brother's cows, Jasim Mutait and his group attacked our house, looting cash and 3 bhori of gold ornaments. When we tried to stop them, Nazrul and Nuru Gazi were also injured. We are currently hospitalized, and we demand justice."

Meanwhile, repeated attempts to get a statement from the accused individuals were unsuccessful.

Regarding the incident, Gosairhat Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Maksud Alam, said, "We have received a complaint and will take necessary action after conducting an investigation."
