Viljoenskroon, South Africa | March 14 – Bangladeshi expatriate Mohammad Kamrul Islam was shot dead during a robbery at his shop in South Africa's Free State province on Thursday night (March 13).

The incident occurred around 10 PM when armed robbers entered Kamrul's business, stole cash and valuables, then forced him to check his car outside for more money. They shot him in the stomach before fleeing. He died instantly at the scene.

Kamrul, originally from Paschim Kormullahpur village in Feni's Daganbhuiyan upazila, was the son of late Abdul Mannan Mia. He had been running a successful business in Viljoenskroon city.

The local Bangladeshi community has declared three days of mourning and is working to repatriate his body. The Bangladesh High Commission in Pretoria has demanded a thorough investigation and better protection for foreign business owners.

South African police have launched a manhunt for the suspects. Kamrul's brother Alamgir Hossain is traveling from Bangladesh to handle formalities.

This killing highlights security concerns for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in South Africa, where violent crimes against foreign shop owners have been increasing.
