The assistant book binder of the Dhaka University Library, Mustafa Asif Arnob, who was arrested in a case of sexual harassment of a student at the university, has been granted bail by the court. On Thursday, Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub of Dhaka granted bail to Arnob on a bond of one thousand taka. In addition, the victim has applied for the withdrawal of the case.
Sub-Inspector Abul Kalam Azad of the Shahbagh Police (Women and Children) Court's General Registration Branch stated that the plaintiff has applied for the withdrawal of the case, and the defense also filed a bail petition. The court granted the bail after hearing both sides.
During the hearing, the defense lawyer, Azmat Hossain, argued that Arnob was not involved in the incident and that he had been falsely implicated in the case. The lawyer requested that bail be granted, and the court agreed, granting Arnob bail.
The case details show that the victim, a student, was walking with her friend near the National Museum in Shahbagh on Wednesday (March 5) at around 1:30 PM when Arnob approached her in front of the Rajshahi Sculpture. Arnob commented on her "odna" (headscarf), asking why it was not proper, and made inappropriate remarks about her not wearing a veil, sexually harassing her. When the student attempted to call the proctor, Arnob fled the scene.
