The newly formed political party, National Citizen Party (NCP), has partially announced its committee during its inauguration ceremony, which took place in the backdrop of the July-August Movement led by youth.
Nahid Islam, the former Information Adviser, has been appointed as the chairman of the National Citizen Party, while Akhtar Hossain has been made the General Secretary.
On Friday (February 28), the names of the chairman and general secretary were announced by Mimu Akter, the sister of martyr Mohammad Ismail Hossain Rabbi, who was killed during the July-August movement. The event took place at the Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.
It was also revealed during the ceremony that a full committee will be announced through a press release later that night.
Earlier on Friday, the ceremony of the National Citizen Party's inauguration started at around 4:15 PM at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka. The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by readings from other religious texts, including the Holy Gita, Tripitaka, and Bible. After the religious readings, the national anthem was sung. The ceremony concluded with a one-minute silence to honor the martyrs of the July mass uprising. Attendees were also invited to pray for the martyrs according to their respective religious beliefs.
