A court has granted a five-day remand for former Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed in connection with a murder case in Rangpur.
He was presented before the court on Friday morning (January 31), where the investigating officer of the case, SI Mostafizar Rahman, applied for a 15-day remand. After the hearing, the Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 of Rangpur, presided by Judge Devi Rani Roy, approved a five-day remand for the accused.
In this regard, Mohammad Shibli Kaiser, the Deputy Police Commissioner (Crime) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police, told the media that Nuruzzaman Ahmed was arrested based on secret information and through the use of information technology. He has multiple murder cases against him, and he was presented in court for the remand application.
Earlier, on Thursday night (January 30) at around 9:00 PM, Nuruzzaman was arrested from a house located near the Post Office on Central Road in Rangpur city.
It is worth noting that Nuruzzaman Ahmed was the Member of Parliament for the Lalmonirhat-2 (Kaliganj-Adhitimari) constituency. He served as the State Minister for Social Welfare in 2015 and as the Minister for Social Welfare in 2019. He was also re-elected as a Member of Parliament in the most recent 12th National Election.
Following the downfall of the Awami League government on August 5, due to a student-led uprising, Nuruzzaman had been in hiding.
