Albania has imposed a one-year ban on TikTok in response to growing concerns over the impact of social media on children, following the murder of a teenager last month.

On Saturday (December 21), British news agency Reuters reported this development.

Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, confirmed this decision, stating that the ban was aimed at making educational institutions safer. After discussions with parents and teachers from across the country, he assured the nation that this move was necessary.

Rama stated, "For one year, we will completely ban TikTok. It will not be available in Albania."

No comments have been received from TikTok regarding the ban.

Several European countries, including France, Germany, and Belgium, have already imposed restrictions on social media use for children. In November, Australia approved a full ban on social media for individuals under 16 years old.

Rama has blamed social media platforms like TikTok for encouraging violence among the youth.

This decision followed the tragic murder of a 14-year-old student who was killed by a peer in a stabbing incident in November. Local media reports suggest that the altercation leading to the murder started on social media.

The ban is expected to be enforced in the early part of the coming year.
